we took stock of China’s three major industrial clusters of hardware and tools: Zhejiang, Guangdong and Jiangsu, and learned that Zhejiang, Guangdong and Jiangsu are the main producing areas of hardware and tools in our country, and are also the top three export provinces. This inventory, to see Shandong, Hebei, Henan, Fujian, Hunan, Shanghai, Chongqing and other places of hardware and tool industry clusters have their own characteristics?

Shandong Province

Famous hardware, mechanical and electrical products distribution center

Shandong, is a famous hardware, mechanical and electrical products distribution center, its hardware and tools production and trade show a rapid development trend, attracted Japan and South Korea, Europe and the United States and other countries of advanced manufacturing enterprises settled in Shandong, the current hardware and tools all over Shandong professional market, basically formed a comprehensive and single type, industrial and circulation type, large and small complement each other.

Linyi, known as the “Chinese hardware industry industry and trade city”, the products are mainly pliers, hammer, axe, wrench and other hand tools, saw blades, clips, mud tile and other decoration hardware, pickaxes, hoes and other garden tools. Linyi Hardware City, is a collection of all kinds of famous tools, construction hardware, woodworking hardware, power tools, daily hardware, locks, small electromechanical equal to one of the large professional wholesale market, operating 12 categories of commodities, more than 1,100 varieties, the average daily number of listed transactions more than 40,000 people, the annual turnover of more than 6 billion yuan. Linyi Hardware City set product wholesale and raw material purchase and sale in one, local materials, local processing, local sales, its products exported to Russia, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia and the Middle East and other countries and regions.

Leling City in Dezhou is recognized as China’s construction hardware industry hub, housing over 300 hardware enterprises, including over 20 companies specializing in home rules. The hardware industry serves as a pillar industry in Leling, Dezhou, encompassing a wide range of products such as door and window hardware, building hardware, tool hardware, and building instruments. Notably, plastic steel door and window hardware from the region holds a prominent position, capturing 13% of the national market share and securing the top rank. Among the representative enterprises in Leling City, Guoqiang Hardware stands out as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sweden’s Assa Helai Group. Their products enjoy strong demand across domestic provinces, cities, autonomous regions, as well as in Europe, America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and over 40 other countries and regions. Guoqiang Hardware has maintained its leading market sales position for seven consecutive years.
The local government plans to integrate enterprises from the door and window hardware, access control hardware, architectural curtain wall structural components, fire and smoke exhaust systems, and intelligent ventilation systems, as well as the plastic and fire-resistant materials industries. The aim is to establish a door and window hardware industrial park that combines production, assembly, warehousing, and logistics. By 2025, the goal is to achieve a production value of 10 billion yuan.

Qingdao is primarily known for its thriving industries in building plumbing, hardware and tools, mechanical and electrical equipment, and civilian hardware products. The slogan “Buy hardware, go to Taitung hardware” has become deeply ingrained in Qingdao. Taitung hardware has been a prominent player in the industry for over 80 years and is the only Chinese time-honored enterprise in the national hardware industry.

During the period of the 1950s to the 1980s, Qingdao hardware experienced its heyday. The city was home to renowned enterprises such as Qingdao Tool Factory, Tool Factory, Qingdao Cable Factory, and Qingdao Pump Factory, along with well-known hardware and electrical companies in Shandong province. Notable hardware brands like “Golden Eagle,” “Double Fish,” and “Double Ling” also emerged during this time.

Qingdao Nail Factory, at one point, held the distinction of being the largest three-nail manufacturing enterprise in China. Its “Samsung brand” shoe nails gained a national reputation for their quality and reliability.

Rizhao City boasts a cross-border e-commerce industrial belt characterized by fitness equipment, textile and clothing, and hardware tools. Within Rizhao City, Lanshan District’s Gaoxing town stands out as the largest hardware processing area, often referred to as the “Hardware Town.” Gaoxing Town has a robust hardware industry and is home to a cluster of private hardware and tool processing enterprises that offer a comprehensive range of services, including mold design, casting, heat treatment, high-grade iron products, construction machinery parts, auto parts, sports and fitness equipment, and finished product packaging. The products from this region are exported to Europe, America, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, and other countries and regions.

Representative local enterprises include Huayuan Rigging, Weiye Tools, Fenghua Scaffolding, and Jade Sanitary Ware. The local government places great emphasis on promoting the high-quality development of the hardware industry and actively supports the growth of small and fine hardware enterprises, aiming to make them more competitive and influential in the market.

 

Hebei Province

Electronic hardware, bearings, fasteners, wire mesh and other trading companies

Nanpi County in Cangzhou, Hebei Province, is renowned as the “Electronic Hardware Town of North China” and boasts the largest advantage industry in hardware and electrical machinery. Nanpi offers a wide range of hardware and electrical accessories, with extensive market reach covering parts, hardware tools, mechanical and electrical products, mechanical equipment, welding equipment, and more.

The county is home to nearly 4,000 hardware and electrical machinery enterprises, including Yimin and Lide Electromechanical, among others. These enterprises collectively generate an annual output value exceeding 30 billion yuan, offering over 30,000 product varieties. Nanpi’s products span nine major fields, including aerospace, rail transit, and automotive parts. Notably, Nanpi hardware accessories have been used in significant projects such as China’s first artificial Earth satellite “Dongfanghong” and the Shen-VI and Shen-VII launch vehicles.

After decades of development, Nanpi has established itself as a prominent industrial group with a significant influence in both domestic and foreign markets.

Linxi County in Xingtai is recognized as one of the five national bearing industry bases and serves as the largest bearing distribution base in North China. In 2022, the bearing industry cluster in the county achieved a main business income of 20.54 billion yuan, with an annual production capacity of 760 million sets, covering over 4,000 product models. The sales of these bearings accounted for 10% of the country’s total and were exported to more than 90 countries and regions.

The industrial cluster has its roots in the 1970s and currently consists of 1,389 bearing production, sales, and supporting enterprises. Among them, there are 35 manufacturers producing a wide range of products with over 4,000 models. The cluster employs 93,000 workers and has an annual production capacity of 810 million sets. Local representative enterprises include Xintai Bearing, Chengwei Bearing, Feilong Bearing, and Zhongda Bearing.

Yongnian District in Handan is widely recognized as the “Fastener Capital of China” and serves as the largest production base and distribution center for standard parts in the country. The district is home to over 8,000 fastener enterprises, including well-known companies like Wozhi, Weida, Lu Peng, Kangyao, and more. The annual output of fasteners in Yongnian reaches 4.3 million tons, accounting for 55% of the national market share. These fasteners are exported to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and other countries and regions.

The fastener industry in Yongnian forms a complete industrial chain, encompassing mold production, special-shaped processing, surface treatment of finished products, post-packaging, and other related industries. This comprehensive chain ensures the efficient and high-quality production of fasteners in the region.

Anping County in Hengshui is globally recognized as the largest production base and distribution center for wire mesh, earning the title of “China’s Wire Mesh Capital.” The wire mesh industry is a distinctive, leading, and pillar industry in Anping County. The county has developed a complete industrial chain, ranging from wire drawing and weaving to filter products and loom manufacturing. Currently, there are 13,700 wire mesh enterprises in Anping County, with a domestic market share of 85%. The county’s wire mesh products account for over 80% of the national export volume and are sold in more than 190 countries and regions, including major markets such as Europe, America, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Anping County has established over 200 production bases in Southeast Asia, South Africa, Eastern Europe, and other regions. In 2022, the wire mesh industry in Anping County generated a total operating income of 88.3 billion yuan.

 

 Henan Province

China steel tape city, China cast iron pot capital

Yucheng County in Shangqiu, Henan, is known as the “China Steel Tape Measure City.” The production of steel tape measures in this area has a history of over 40 years. Yucheng County has seen the development of over 1,000 steel tape measure manufacturing enterprises and more than 5,000 individual businesses. The measuring tool industry has formed a series of standardized product lines and initially established a complete industrial chain. Currently, the county produces over 1.5 billion steel tape measures annually, accounting for over 85% of the national market share and over 60% of the national export share. The products are exported to over 120 countries and regions worldwide, with an annual output value of over 12 billion yuan.

Key enterprises in this field include Keming Measuring Tools, Ruituo Measuring Tools, and Bante Measuring Tools. Their products are sold in more than 20 countries and regions, with annual revenues exceeding 60 million yuan each. Yucheng County has become an essential driving force for the industrial and economic growth of the county, with an annual production capacity of 150 million pieces of hardware and tools.

Jia County in Pingdingshan is renowned for its cast iron pot industry and is known as the “China Cast Iron Pot Capital.” It has an annual production capacity of over 70 million cast iron pots, accounting for 70% of the domestic market. Nearly 200,000 cast iron pots are shipped from here to the world every day. The products are exported to dozens of countries and regions in Europe, America, and Southeast Asia. Jia County serves as the largest production base and distribution center for cast iron pots in the country.

In 2006, Jia County established the Modern Kitchenware Industrial Park, creating a more comprehensive industrial chain for the casting, research and development, standardization, quality monitoring, and domestic and international sales of cast iron pots. Currently, the Modern Kitchenware Professional Park in Jia County is home to 24 cast iron pot enterprises and 39 supporting enterprises. They produce over 70 million cast iron pots in more than 50 varieties and over 580 specifications, with an annual output value of nearly 3 billion yuan.

Fujian Nan’an

The country’s water heating town, China’s famous bathroom town

Nan’an City in Quanzhou, Fujian Province is known as the “Hometown of Plumbing in China” and the “Famous Town of Sanitary Ware in China.” Plumbing and kitchen & bathroom industries are among the four leading industries in Nan’an City. After over 40 years of development, Nan’an’s plumbing and kitchen & bathroom industry has formed a cluster integrating technology research and development, processing and production, assembly, and packaging. It has been recognized as one of the “Top 100 Industry Clusters in China” by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Currently, Nan’an has over 700 plumbing and kitchen & bathroom enterprises, including 60 large-scale enterprises. The products cover more than 3,000 varieties and over 20,000 specifications, including hardware plumbing and sanitary ceramics. With a sales force of 500,000, Nan’an occupies 80% of the Chinese plumbing equipment market. It is estimated that at least one out of three faucets in China is made in Nan’an. Notable companies in the industry include JOMOO Group, Huichuang Sanitary Ware Group, Huaying Valve Industry, Yingqiao Valves, Zhongyu, and Shenlude.

Nan’an City has been recognized as the National Demonstration Base for New Industrialization of Hardware Products (Plumbing and Kitchen & Bathroom), the National Demonstration Area for Creating Well-known Brands in Plumbing and Sanitary Ware, and the National Demonstration Base for Transformation and Upgrading of Plumbing and Kitchen & Bathroom Industries in Foreign Trade. It has established the first national quality inspection center for plumbing and sanitary ware products in the province and has been selected as one of the pilot areas for regional brand construction in the fourth batch of industrial cluster zones in the country.

 

Chongqi Dazu

Western China’s hardware capital

As an important concentration area and distribution center for hardware products in China, Dazu District in Chongqing is known as the “Hardware Capital of Western China.” Its product range includes daily hardware, hardware and tools, household hardware, agricultural machinery hardware, and construction hardware. Among the small hardware items used for home decoration, knives, scissors, and locks are particularly well-known. Dazu has given rise to a series of renowned enterprises such as Randong, Zhengfa, Mingyue, Jieyutai, Dengjia Knife, Longshui, Jinzhong, Feifan, Shangfeng, Zhenghua, and Yufuren.

The annual output value of the hardware industry in Dazu exceeds 20 billion yuan. The district is home to over 1,500 hardware production enterprises, employing more than 100,000 people. The hardware professional market cluster covers an area of 360,000 square meters. With over 2,000 different types and styles of products in more than 10 categories, including daily hardware and tool hardware, they are well-received in domestic and international markets. Dazu has also established an e-commerce industrial park covering an area of over 20,000 square meters, with over 600 registered enterprises and an annual transaction volume exceeding 6 billion yuan.

Dazu’s hardware industry is actively expanding into international markets. In 2022, Longshui Hardware Market in Dazu was approved as a pilot project for market procurement trade, allowing local enterprises to engage in cross-border trade and export through this method. This initiative has addressed the challenges faced by small and medium-sized hardware enterprises, such as small orders, diverse sources of goods, and difficulties in obtaining export qualifications. Dazu will also leverage the “Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe” international railway corridor to facilitate the global expansion of its hardware industry.
